Amazing Alterables™ by PaperWhimsy
Our array of original, quirky cool laser-cut decorative shapes are a mixed media artist's dream date. The Amazing Alterables™ are designed by me (Gale Blair) (and occasionally Phillip Drawbridge, aka Perfect Husband, when I twist his arm). I cut the alterables from a premium eco-friendly wood fiberboard, in-house in my little laser cutting studio using my wee but mighty laser. This eco-friendly substrate takes paint, stain, and mixed media processes extremely well.
All of the designs within this line are uniquely ours and the vast majority of these products are only sold right here, from our website. Many of the designs are inspired by ancient and antique sources with a curiously odd twist because that's just plain fun.
A characteristic of laser-cut wood is a slight burnishing around the edges of the cuts. That's because a laser beam of pure light is burning through the substrate. This burnishing can be lightened with a few swipes of fine grit sandpaper (be sure to use a respirator when sanding wood). Also characteristic for laser cut wood is for your goods to have a very slight but quite pleasant burnt wood aroma, but that usually dissipates within 24-48 hours when left in open air.
