What's With the Amazing Alterables™ Purchase Limits?

As many of you know, PaperWhimsy is a one-woman-show. I design and create/cut/print all the items I sell.

I work from a small room in my little cottage that doesn't afford me any space to store and stash backup stock. Everything I cut is cut to order.

Most of the Alterables I sell are made up of several components ranging anywhere from three to 11 components to make the one whole thing.

Angel Reliquary, above, is made up of 11 separate components

It's not unusual for a customer's order of just six Alterables to be made up of 15 to 60+ separate components. And all the patterns for those components need to be manually set up onto 12"x12" boards to feed into my laser cutter because no two orders are the same - each order is unique.

I quickly discovered that not having limits was going to be very tricky for me to provide a halfway decent turnaround time.

Order limits is a collossally crazy idea for a business model, but it's a way for me to attempt to provide a better customer experience by getting the products to customers. In essence, each order of Amazing Alterables™ placed in my store is a special order cut especially for the person who placed the order. Nothing is pre-cut and packaged and pulled from a shelf.

When I cut and package your order it's especially for you.
